One Red Breakfast

Being that today is December 1, we had our traditional Red Breakfast. In today's case it was a Red Lunch!! This is a tradition that my family has been doing as long as I can remember. We set our table with red plates, cups, napkins etc., and we make ebelskules and all the fixings of a big breakfast. Ebelskules are a Danish food, and are kinda like a small, ball shaped pancake. You use a special pan that makes them into a perfect ball (if you can flip it right). You can fill them with jelly, or cream, or fruit, or chocolate chips, or just eat them plain. We like to sprinkle powdered sugar on top and dip into suyrp. Then we talked about the significance that the color red has, as the first color of Christmas, and what we are really celebrating on Christmas. I really look forward to this tradition every year. It always gets me in the right mood for Christmas! It was especially fun this year, because Rylee actually gets what is going on, and can really enjoy the tradition.

PS Mom and Dad, we were thinking of you the whole time. I am so grateful for this fun tradition that you passed on to us kids, that we can now share with our families. We love and miss you!!

FB and a blog? How have I missed you guys? At least we are connected now. Sounds like your Holidays have been great. You're kids are darling! I hadn't seen Tyse yet, (out of the loop here in Kansas).
Glad to see that all is well.

How fun! We make those too, except we call them aebleskivers. We love to eat them with raspberries and whipped cream (the real stuff, not the crappy cool whip stuff). How fun to do it for a "red breakfast." I love holiday traditions! I got my own aebilskiver pan for Christmas a few years ago and it took me several tries to perfect the art of cooking them. Our tradition is to make them for General Conference morning and then we sometimes make them for birthdays and such.

I stumbled across your blog on Tiff's blog. So fun you became part of the blogging world. Your family is adorable and I love your "red" tradition . . . so cute. Merry Christmas (yeah I love saying that :) )

Such a fun tradition...you'll have to send me the recipe for that, and hopefully I'll remember on December 1, 2009! You're so fun!
